I am experiencing heavy hair fall. Does onion oil really help?

Hello everyone, I have been experiencing heavy hair fall for quite sometime now. Whenever I run my hand through hair, almost 50-60 hair follicles fall out. I am very worried. I am just 26 year old and nothing seems to be working. I have seen several ads of companies that are suggesting onion hair oil. I did some research and learned that onion is good to control hair fall. But do the oils really work? Or should I just apply raw onion juice? Which of these is better? And what company has the best onion hair oil? I have seen products from WoW, Mama Earth and Khadi, but I am really confused.

The hair fall issue started almost a year back for me. But now, the front part is getting completely damaged. Please help me and suggest what I should do! Thanks.

    1. Thank you so much. I didn’t know Parachute was also offering this. I would definitely buy because it is a bit trusted brand than others. After how many days did you feel that it is working?

    1. I have heard about this medicine. Many of my colleagues also suggested it. Thanks for sharing, I will consult with a doctor and take if he thinks it is okay.

    2. Beyware that minoxidil can increase heart rates and cause other side effects. plus the benefit you get from minoxidil doesn’t last forever. The moment you stop using this, hair thinning starts again.
Btw I have personally experienced this. Suggest you to try onion oil or castor oil for 3-4 months and compare before and after.

      1. I have taken a before. I think I am getting a lot of castor oil suggestions so I will try it before. I am also skeptical about minoxidil because one of my friends also had a bad experience using it. Thanks for sharing your experience. I will share how well castor oil works. Thank you for your suggestion.

  1. If you are a guy and you have hereditary hair loss problem, don’t waste money in oil and medicine. Clean shave is a better option. And females like it ๐Ÿ™‚
For onion oil, no idea. Better buy cold pressed castor oil. It will smell a bit and will be sticky.

    1. I am sad that I am doomed being a guy and nothing will work. I have also heard that castor oil works well. May be I will give that a try. Do I need to mix it with something else or apply it directly?

      1. Castor Oil is applied without mixing with anything. You have to live with some stickiness and smell. That is the best and most ancient way of preserving hair health. You can find castor oil extract in many international hair care products these days. I don’t know if that is effective. Here is a product I found that has castor oil with onion oil and many other oils known as hair boosters.

        1. Thank you so much. I would look into this and consider buying. I was reading about castor oil last night. I think it is better to apply it on night because of stickiness and smell. Thank you for your suggestion.

  2. I was once asked to temporarily use Minoxidil based hair product (by a doctor). But after knowing it was Minoxidil, my friends suggested not to use it. Rather we went for 50-50 combination of castor oil and coconut oil. If you don’t have time or patience to manage mixing of oils, you can buy readymade blend like this one https://www.amazon.in/Matru-Ayurveda-Coconut-Castor-Sesame/dp/B07HP7GF3H/
This is costlier than buying castor oil and coconut oil separately.

    1. Oh, thank you so much for sharing this. It will definitely help out. I was also reading about mixing castor oil with Rogan badam for best results. I will try this as well.

  3. Is it a hereditary problem? male pattern baldness? may be your dad and grand-dad had the same problem? In that case you will have it any which way.
You can delay it. But my opinion is, for hereditary hair loss, you can let the hair fall in its natural way – then when hairfall is stable and not falling any more, you can go for hair transplant. That is only if you want a more long-term solution. Otherwise yes, try these oils to delay the process a bit.

    1. I think it is a hereditary, but I am not too sure. I started losing hair when I shifted to Mumbai, and after that it became continuous. It has been quite some time. Yes, my father has also lost his hair but it happened to him in his late 40s. I am in my 20s. Let’s see if transplant will be the only option, till then I will give some of the above treatments try.

  4. The problems for hairfall, in my experience are as follows:

    1. Tension in mind
    2. Worries
    3. Improper washing of hair or not keeping track of hair care
    4. Excessive Sweat on hair and scalp
    5. Using Helmets without a cloth covering the hair/head
    6. Not drying the hair after a bath. And keeping it wet throughout making it to dry on its own

    Your thougts please

    1. You did not include the major reason here. Hereditary Male Pattern Baldness. All the factors written here can only affect how fast the hair loss can appear. Onion or any other thing can just try to delay the inevitable.

  5. I think you should consult a dermatologist. There can be different reasons for hair fall. Home remedies can cure temporary hair fall, but if your hair fall doesn’t reduce, get a consultation done for diagnosis and treatment.

    1. Yes, I did consult a dermatologist and getting a treatment now. You are right most of these hair growth oils and home remedies don’t work. I have been disappointed with those and spent a lot on Wow hair oil, shampoo and conditioner but nothing worked at all. I didn’t expect hair growth but they were not even able to stop hair fall.
