Electric Shavers vs. Manual Razors: Which is Better?

Well, I and my father recently had a heated debate between electric shavers and manual razor. I think each side wants to claim supremacy. My father is old school and prefers razors, but I think both have their benefits. I’ve spent mornings experimenting with both to find the perfect shave ever since my college days.

Let me start with the electric shaver. I would be lying if I didn’t mention that its convenience is undeniable. With no need for shaving cream or water, it’s a quick and easy option for someone like me who is a working class professional. I’ve tried the Philips Norelko and the Braun Series 9, both of which offer a close, comfortable shave. They use the foil and rotary technologies and they effectively capture and cut hair. The best part about them is that they minimize irritation. But let me make it clear, it is definitely not good for baby-smooth finish.

On the other hand, a manual razor is great for precision. My favs for it are Gillette Mach3 and the Schick Hydro. They both are extremely reliable options if you like to achieve a close, clean shave at home. Using a good quality shaving cream creates a lubricating layer, I prefer Gillette shaving foam as it reduces the feeling of razor burn. However, if you are not a specialist and have sensitive skin, then there’s a risk of cuts and nicks. Additionally, it is a time consuming process compared to an electric shaver.

So, which one is better? Well, it depends on your personal preferences and lifestyle. If convenience and speed are your priorities, an electric shaver is the way to go. But if you crave that ultra-close, traditional shave and are willing to invest a bit more time and effort, a manual razor might be your weapon of choice. Personally, I find myself reaching for the electric shaver during busy weekdays and the manual razor once in two-three months for a more pampering experience.

Ultimately, the best way to decide is to try both and see which one suits you best.
