Which website or app do you use for groceries, milk, bread etc.?

Everyone has gone online after the lock-down and shutdown due to Covid. I had tried many online sites for groceries- grofers, bigbasket, amazon prime etc. Finally sticking with BigBasket.

Similarly, lot of apps and companies have come up for milk delivery. None of them seemed reliable. Milkbasket seems ok. What do you think? What are your favorites?

    1. “Amazon prime now”? That is part of main amazon app and website now. Very confusing to choose amazon fresh or other stores in there. As bigbazaar is part of Reliance now, they may leave amazon platform.

Amazon Fresh runs good offers these days. Try it once.

  1. Flipkart grocery offers are great. You save upto 200 rupees with products at 1 rupee each. 1kg atta 1 rupee. 500ml oil 1 rupee etc.

    1. Prices are higher than amazon. What you save in the freebies are gone in higher prices for other items. The minimum order amount is 1300 for free delivery. That’s not for me.

  2. There are more milk delivery companies than I can count. They come and go. None stay in business for more than few months. Just ask near neighbours on where they are getting their milk from.

For groceries, Amazon has been great. At least 10% saved than local stores. Any delivery can’t be more timely, accurate and smooth.

  3. Very bad experience with Daily Ninja. Deliveries go missing randomly and you can’t rely on a delivery if you urgently need that item in the morning. BB Daily is good so far.

    1. Right now every one is opening a delivery business without thinking about scaling the business. It’s same problem everywhere. They launch a new app and delivery goes smooth for few days and then they face provlems and wind up business.

  4. Bigbasket has been performing consistent over the years including the covid lockdown time. Other option is Amazon Fresh. A lot has changed there as well.

  5. I am sharing from experience the best options to buy groceries online in Bangalore. This is based on service quality noticed by me and relatives right from the days these companies started operating in Bangalore. Your experience may be different. Feel free to comment and counter me.

Amazon Fresh: Most reliable of them all. This was Amazon Prime Now in the past. You easily get a free delivery slot for the same day and also for next days. Price is usually better than local shops. Delivery is almost always on time. Rarely they miss the delivery slot. Fruits and Vegetables quality is good and they immediately refunded if something wasn’t right.

Flipkart Grocery; On and off they sell vegetables and fruits. So, mostly grocery items can be purchased there. Delivery slots are usually after a day. Will not recommend if you want something fast. Minimum order amount is high. They usually have one item (Rs 20 or so) free if you order over 800/-. Bad part is their app has been pathetic now a days and takes a long time to load.

BigBasket: Similar timelines as Amazon. Prices are also similar. Shipping charges are sometimes there sometimes not. That was irritating. Still you can use them if you want something and it is not available on Amazon groceries.

Dunzo: Did you try them? On and off very good service. Many times we got free delivery for orders above Rs 200 or so. And deliveries are in few minutes only. Just like Swiggy, Blinkit etc. from time factor. Very good option for something at okayish price and quick.

Swiggy, Blinkit and many other “quick commerce” startups: I would avoid them due to their unusually unreliable pricing. They try to charge MRP when same product is available at almost 40-50% discount on other platforms. This is your last option if something is that urgent.

    Hope I helped!!

  6. Thanks! Just wanted to add DMart to the list. Recently started noticing their delivery persons in the apartments. Minimum order for free delivery is more than 500 I think.

  7. I order my milk, bread, and other supplies from Big Basket and Swiggy Instamart. Both are fairly good with their rates and delivery. The order is delivered within 15-20 minutes, which is a great plus point for the customers. The supply has always been fresh, and I haven’t had any bad experiences with either of the apps. Delivery partners are also decent. The pandemic made us rely on online apps for our daily essentials, but now it has become a convenient and time-saving practice.
