Online Purchase of Garments

Its time we start reviewing our purchase habits ONLINE.  Recently my daughter order a pair of chudidhars online through a link.  they were offering the same at Rs.500/- a pair and my daugther thought its a good buy.  They did not have COD, hence had to be paid before hand.  Normally she used to consult with me and we both work on our intuition to pay or not to pay.  This time, as I was outside, she decided and went ahead with the payment.  The delivery date was within three days.  And this three days never came.  So, it is better to check it various ways to check the honesty of the seller.  Trying my best to find out various ways and will share soon.

  1. I generally buy things from reputed e-commerce sites only. That minimises the risk of non-delivery and ensure quality, quantity etc.

As consumers, it is difficult for us to check the authenticity of the company.
We generally choose to buy something, make payment and wait for the product to land up in our doorstep. In this process, it is recommended not to experiment with the unknown sites.

  2. What website did you order from? Did you look at any sort of customer care there? I don’t think such things happen a lot now because people are wary of where they order from. I think we should be careful about websites whose ads pop up on Facebook or Instagram because not all of them are legit. These websites don’t have COD option and it’s better to avoid them.

  3. Buying any thing online will have a risk factor until you choose some most reliable online platform. We should take some time to go through customer review, rating and return policy before finalizing our purchase this might minimize the risk factor.

    1. Absolutely, it’s surprising that in this era, online shopping concerns still exist. Your point about overseeing the online shopping activities of kids makes a lot of sense. I think it is very easy to find trust score and reviews of websites before ordering anything from them. If you find anything even a little suspicious, don’t order. And the best thing that you can do is order from trusted websites rather than random ones.

  4. It is 2023, almost 2024 and you should not have this concern about buying things online.
However, think again if you are giving your daughter/son access to your Amazon / Flipkart accounts and letting them place orders on their own, again using your credit card etc. This can lead to a very bad habit. Plus kids do not have the mindset to think about product return policy etc. while buying. It is best to ask them to select the product and let an elder place the order.

  5. Buying garments online should not be an issue in this day and age; it’s the e-commerce site that matters! Which site did your daughter order from? There have been increasing cases of fraudulence from various sites. Even my sister had a similar experience wherein she ordered a kurta from a website. It was a pre-paid order. To our utter dismay, the order never got delivered, and there was no customer care number. Sometimes, we get carried away and give in to impulse buying without verifying the authenticity of the brand.

Checking the website, address, contact number, presence on social media, and customer reviews is a must before trusting a new site with your money. Please guide your daughter for her future online shopping.
