Grofers/Blinkit Vs Big Basket In Delhi NCR

So 6 months back, I lived in Delhi NCR for about 3 months. I always prefer shopping for groceries online. When it comes to grocery shopping in Delhi NCR, there are two major apps: Grofers(now Blinkit) and Big Basket. Yes, there is Amazon Fresh and Flipkart Grocery, but I have always prefered Big Basket and Grofers. I have used both services a lot of times before as well. Here’s my personal experience and insights into how these services compare:

1. Reliability: In my experience, Big Basket takes the lead in reliability. Well, the reasons for it are that they maintain their inventory, which means that what you see on their website or app is what you’ll receive.

Grofers, on the other hand, always have inventory issues but they also have time up from partnered stores for delivering those products. This also sometimes results in discrepancies, with items missing from your order. Tracking these missing items can be a hassle, as Grofers doesn’t offer a detailed receipt. You’re left with the option of matching items during delivery, though the delivery staff usually inform you about missing items. Grofers claims to refund you automatically if they charge more than the store’s price, but the process lacks transparency.

2) Availability:

Big Basket has a wide array of products across categories. Whether you’re looking for a selection of fruits and vegetables or various grocery brands, it’s akin to strolling through a well-stocked supermarket.

Grofers, however, shines in terms of category diversity. They offer everything from kitchen appliances to electronics and even heavy appliances like air conditioners. However, the choice within each category resembles what you’d find at your local corner store. In terms of quality, both services are comparable, but Big Basket holds an advantage with its quality control due to inventory ownership.

3) Promptness of Delivery:

Grofers makes a bold promise of delivering within 90 minutes for any order, charging Rs 49 for orders under Rs 350. While they strive to meet this commitment, delivery slots are often provided within 1.5 to 3 hours, and deliveries typically align with the chosen slot.

Big Basket, on the other hand, takes a bit longer, usually delivering the next day. They have introduced an express 60-minute delivery option for an additional Rs 20 fee, but its availability in all areas remains uncertain.

In terms of packaging, Big Basket stands out with more professional packaging. Grofers provides bright orange cloth bags, a unique touch that can sometimes be returned for discount coupons.

4) Prices, Offers and Discounts:

In the price department, Big Basket might be slightly more expensive for some items, but there are instances where they offer competitive prices. Generally, the overall difference in pricing is not substantial.

Grofers tends to shower users with various offers, discount coupons, and cashback when using online wallets. However, this dynamic can shift as companies adjust their strategies.

5) App and Customer Service:

Both Grofers and Big Basket offer user-friendly apps. Big Basket, in particular, excels in terms of customization with shopping lists and a smart basket feature for everyday necessities.

Grofers’ app navigation might seem a bit cumbersome as it requires you to select a store before choosing items. While you can search across stores by item name, comparing prices across different stores can be tricky and may require multiple interactions. Grofers encourages users to pick their preferred store since they don’t own inventory, leaving the choice of where to buy up to the user.

In terms of customer service, both services are equally prompt and just a call away.

Conclusion:

In my experience, the choice between Grofers and Big Basket in Delhi NCR boils down to your priorities. If reliability and a wide range of products are your top concerns, Big Basket is the way to go. On the other hand, Grofers impresses with its quick delivery times, diverse product categories, and frequent discounts. Ultimately, your choice might also depend on your specific location and the current promotions these companies are offering. Regardless of your preference, both services have made grocery shopping in Delhi NCR incredibly convenient.
