I am an avid reader so I have been thinking about getting a book subscription box, particularly The Big Book Box. It seems like a cool way to get curated reads, especially for someone like me who loves discovering new books but often has no idea where to start. But before I commit, I am curious: Are these book subscription boxes in India really worth it?
The Big Book Box, for example, offers multiple subscription tiers with a mix of bestsellers, exclusive merch, and goodies like bookmarks, candles, and more. It looks fun, but I wonder how consistent the quality is and if it’s worth the price tag. From what I have seen, the box typically includes 3-4 books and sometimes even special editions, which is tempting. However, I am concerned about delays in delivery and if the books are really tailored to my taste, or if I would end up with random reads that are totally a waste of time and I may not enjoy.
Apart from The Big Book Box, I have also come across other options like:
Books n Beyond – They offer monthly subscription boxes with a mix of fantasy, thrillers, and literary fiction. Their boxes often include exclusive author content and cool collectibles.
StoryTribe – This one’s more for kids, but it’s great if you’re looking for subscription boxes for younger readers.
Furball Story Book Box – Aimed at children, they offer interactive reading experiences with books, stickers, and activities to engage young readers.
Lock the Box by Kitab Lovers – This is a subscription service where you can fill a box with as many books as you want, and it’s usually more affordable.
While the variety is exciting, my main concern is if these books are good or just random books that no one purchases or reads. I am sure if I buy individual books, I will enjoy them instead of leaving it to chance. So, I would love to know: has anyone tried these subscription boxes, especially The Big Book Box? Were the books well-curated, and how was the overall experience in terms of delivery and value for money? Would you recommend going for a subscription box in India, or is it better to stick to picking my own reads?
I’m really on the fence, so any advice would be helpful!
I liked the concept and we were even trying to start such a service with used books in the past, like in 2008. Never kicked off.
I heard Amazon was to start their book subscription service in India. No news on that. I actually find offline book fairs much better to visit and buy in bulk. This is mainly for kids books.
FUBUBOX seems good to me. However, nothing beats browsing real books in offline stores, fairs etc.
You are right, nothing beats offline stores in case of books. I recently tried the Lock the Box by Kitab Lovers but I have been disappointed really bad. The books were not good at all, I just wasted my money and got nothing.
