I am planning to buy a vacuum cleaner that my parents. They live on their own on Coimbatore and I hardly get time to visit and help clean the sofa etc. The maid hardly knows about technology products. Are there low power and light weight vacuum cleaners available in market? I am looking for something that will be easy to use for sofa etc. Easy to assemble etc.
this may help you. We have TWO of this model: Panasonic-MC-CG304
One for my personal use and another for parents very similar to your requirements.
I had checked many models online. Some are very bulky and others are too less in power. There is a Philips model very similar to this one. But that was little expensive.
This one from panasonic is really great. And I am just telling from experience and what guests said after seeing this in action. Power is great and size is too compact. You can check some videos on youtube and ask if you have more questions?
Thanks for sharing your experience with the Panasonic-MC-CG304. I am also thinking to buy one for my family. It’s nice to hear from someone who has two of these models for different purposes. The fact that it’s powerful and compact is definitely a plus. Btw, is vacuum cleaner replacement for brooming in house? I am just wondering because I don’t want to both things. And how do they affect electricity bills? May be I will check some YouTube videos too.
Broom replacement? Not possible I think in standard Indian houses. The attachment is there for floor cleaning. It may be very useful for carpet cleaning I think.
Look for a model with good attachments for upholstery and furniturre etc. Portable car vacuums are something you can try. Those come with less power rating.
If you need the vacuum for cleaning floors and large areas, get something big with wheels. I doubt parents will use the long steel pipes to clean the floor.
Panasonic-MC-CG304 seems to be good. This is a good choice if your requirement is a compact machine.
However, if your budget allows, look for “Philips PowerPro FC9352/01-Compact Bagless Vacuum Cleaner” which is slightly expensive. But it will be a good buy. Slightly bulkier.
Keep in mind, in the Panasonic model, there is a cloth-type reusable bag which will need cleaning (easy) from time to time when it is full.
The Philips model I mentioned is a bagless model. There is no bags to clean or replace. But the dust container has to be removed, dust thrown out and fitted back.
In short these two are pretty good and almost similar in terms of efforts. Some other good models are there that use disposable paper-type bags. Once full, those bags need to be removed and new bags to be installed. Easy but slightly expensive in the long run.
All these models come with a good number of attachments. I would not suggest buying one just because there are more types of attachments. After initial hype, you will end up using just one or two of those attachments.
And the telescopic extension handles are made of steel and heavy as mentioned earlier. That may be too difficult to handle for elderly folks.
Stay away from the car-vacuum ultra-portable ones. They will need a lot more human effort. And they don’t even come with wheels, just in case.
Thanks, I think the Panasonic vacuum cleaner has a blower function. I could not find it in the Philips PowerPro model. Could you please comment?
Blower in a vacuum cleaner? You better buy a dedicated blower. It is cheap and much better than the blowing function in vaccum cleaner.
You will have to remove and fit the pipe differently to use blow function. Not very practical.Blowing power is usually very low compared to standalone blowers.
Now I agree after buying the machine with blower function. The blower is useless. It is also very difficult if not impossible to remove the pipe from vacuum function and attach to blower end. Thanks for your comments anyway.
Hi, we have a portable car vacuum. That is very good for sofa set crevices. It is from Eureka Forbes. It is very light weight for me to use almost every few days.
Let me find the correct details and post here.
Hi, Eureka Forbes Quick Clean DX Vacuum Cleaner is portable vaccume cleaner for deep cleaning needs at sofa side, corners, and for floors. The cleaner is good choice for daliy clenaing needs comes with resuable dust bag, movable wheels, easy to handle by anyone. You can try this cleaner for deep cleaning.
Is that light weight? Can you comment on the exact weight of that one from Eureka Forbes? This seems lighter and cheaper than the Panasonic one mentioned above.
I have seen vacuum cleaners above 1500w getting very hot in even 5min of use. Thats not a problem, but if you dont want that power, better stick to 1000w vacuum only.
Got Panasonic Mc-CG304 but it is also getting hot after 10 minutes of use. So far we are using it without the steel rods attachments.
Even I am looking for vacuum cleaner options for elders in the family. I will surely explore all these suggestions. Hope to find something good.
