Has Anyone Tried a Robot Vacuum Cleaner in India?

I am seriously considering buying a robot vacuum cleaner, especially from brands like Mi or iRobot, but I’m still unsure whether they’re actually effective or if manual cleaning is still better.

Here’s my situation: We have had house help for years, but the inconsistency has become really frustrating. Some days, they don’t show up unannounced, and everything just gets delayed. On top of that, my mom has some serious back issues, so deep cleaning or even regular sweeping has become tough for her. That’s why I’m thinking of switching to a robot vacuum cleaner something that can at least handle the daily sweeping and light mopping.

I have done some research, and robot vacuums like Mi Robot or iRobot Roomba seem to have good reviews. They are in my budget range of ₹35,000–₹40,000, and some even come with mopping functions. But I’m wondering, are these devices really reliable for Indian households, where dust accumulation can be more frequent? I also want to make sure that if I spend this amount, it’s worth the investment. Does anyone here have experience with robot vacuums? How well do they handle Indian homes, especially with sweeping and light mopping? Also, I have a Labrador pet in my home, so will they be effective in picking dog hair.  I would love to hear if they’re effective or if manual cleaning is still necessary for thorough results.

Please share your experiences if you’ve used these or any other brands. Are there specific models you would recommend? Or is it better to stick to traditional cleaning methods? Looking forward to your suggestions!

  1. I agree to the fact that these things do not fit well with average Indian houses.

I was surprised to hear from a colleague that they got one such machine 7 years back when many of us didnot even hear about these. Now there are tons of these vacuums available online in India.

Still, this is not very useful unless you already keep your floor tidy and clean for the machine to navigate. Western homes usually have carpeted floors and they need frequent vacuum cleaning. Broom works best in Indian setup.

Still, if anyone is interested, try iRobot and stay away from new entrants.

    1. Yes, we usually keep the floor clean. And yes, I am also skeptical when it comes to these things because I don’t want to throw in 30-35k and it gets bad within a month. As you said, in our Indian households, we don’t have carpets or wooden flooring. I have been looking at a lot of videos and a lot of tech experts and YouTubers have suggested iRobot’s vacuum cleaners. I am thinking of buying a cheaper one i3 152, which might be available around 20k during this Great Indian Sale on Amazon or Flipkart’s BBD, wherever I get the best deal, I will buy and see if it is worth it.

      1. Hi Marshall
Did you go ahead with buying one and what was your experience as I’m also considering buying it to help my mother, and more or less for the same maid reasons as you had.
Thanks in advance for your feedback
