Sanitary Napkin V/s Tampon V/s Menstrual Cup- Better Choice for Women’s Personal Hygiene

Earlier, we only had sanitary napkins for women’s personal hygiene needs. Then came tampons and took us by storm owing to the benefits they offer over napkins. In recent years, awareness regarding menstrual cups has increased, and many women are making the big switch.

Today, I will share my experience and thoughts regarding which option is better for managing personal hygiene during those days of the month.

Sanitary napkins were the first personal hygiene product that I used as a teenager. I would somehow prefer dry net cover napkins as they kept wetness and discomfort at bay. I have tried various brands, such as Stayfree, Whisper, and Sofy, over the years. The major downside associated with napkins is leakage and frequent need to change it every 6-7 hours. Tampons were a big relief as they allowed women to engage in many activities, such as swimming and other sports, without the fear of leaking or changing frequently. However, many women still find it troublesome due to a lack of awareness regarding how to use it.

After the introduction of menstrual cups, there has been increasing awareness regarding their use. It not only helps in managing personal hygiene well but also leaves zero carbon footprints. Menstrual cups are a sustainable and eco-friendly option. They can be used several times, unlike tampons and napkins, which makes them cost-effective as well. You can find some brands online that sell quality menstrual cups. These cups help overcome the challenges that women face with napkins and tampons. You just need to learn how to use it, and once you get used to it, there is no going back. There are tutorials and YouTube videos that help women learn the right way of using the cups.

Menstrual cups are hands down the best choice, but to each their own. There is still a significant percentage of women who use sanitary napkins and tampons, and I feel it is going to be that way, at least for a few years. It is tough for women to come out of their comfort zone. What are your views and preferences about these three products for managing personal hygiene?
