With Diwali and Dhanteras just around the corner, I have been thinking of snagging some good online deals on gold jewellery. We usually buy from local stores, but after a bad experience recently, I’m leaning toward trusted brands like Tanishq and PC Jewellers.
We live in a small town, and a few years ago, we bought my mom’s mangalsutra from a local jeweller. We were told it was made of 22-carat gold, but when we recently went to upgrade it, we found out it was only 18-carat! We were shocked and, of course, got way less value than expected. This whole experience made us rethink where we buy our jewellery from.
I have been eyeing the websites of Tanishq and PC Jewellers, both of which seem reliable, but I’ve never purchased gold online. Has anyone tried buying from these sites? Are their products genuinely certified? And how do they handle returns or issues with the product? I know that they are among the biggest brands in India but I am just concerned because of online and gold products being expensive.
I am particularly interested in knowing if the prices are fair compared to offline stores and whether online deals are actually worth it during festive sales. Which brand is better than the other in terms of design variety, service, or price? Or is there any other reliable online jeweller I should consider? Please share your thoughts or experience.

It depends. I know friends who have purchased gold jewelry online in India from different websites. Overall experience differs based on which city you are in. They don’t even offer online purchase in smaller cities.
You are right, the lack of quality is always an issue for jewellery bought from local shops. I think most big shops offline have Hallmark rating on them. I once asked my neighbouring jewellery shop and they were like “it takes effort and risk to take all our jewellery pieces to get Hallmark added. That’s why we are not doing it.”
We still used the local shop for quite a few small items. I feel it is worth the risk if you lose some gold and get some discount in return. Not an advice though 🙂
The problem with local shop is that they can fool us, the experience that we had made us think a lot of buying from local store. The discount part is definitely right, but when I went to same store to sell and buy something else, he said that it is not worth 24k or 22k gold for that matter. It was just 18k gold and the price decreased drastically. From that day, I decided I would go for only hallmark jewellery, no matter the price and even if it costs a little extra, at least I know that I am buying what I am paying for.
Yes, I faced similar issue of not getting something delivered at my home as we live in a town. They suggested we visit their nearby store, and get it picked from there. I guess, we will have to do the same.
