AmazonBasics vs. Boat for Power Banks: Which Is More Reliable?

I am planning to travel in the next few days for some company related work and events, and I realized I will probably need a power bank, especially for long trips because mostly I will be staying out all day. I used to have MI power bank back in the day, but I didn’t have good experience with it. After some searching, I have narrowed it down to two options: AmazonBasics and Boat. Both seem decent, but I am stuck trying to figure out which one would be more reliable.

AmazonBasics Power Bank: I came across the AmazonBasics Power Bank on Amazon, and it has a rating of 3.9 stars, which is low, but a lot of the reviews that gave negative marking is because of how they didn’t receive the package properly or got damaged product. Overall, people said that it has a decent performance. I like that it’s a budget friendly option, and since it’s an Amazon brand, I am guessing it is reliable for the price. The one I have been looking at has a decent battery capacity (around 10,000 mAh), which seems like it’ll be enough for a couple of charges.

But, even with the decent reviews about its usage, I am not sure if it is the best choice for the long run. Some reviews mention slow charging after a few months, and that worries me a bit since I will need it to last throughout my trip. Has anyone used an AmazonBasics power bank for travel or long-term use? How was the experience?

Boat Power Bank: Then there’s Boat. I have seen Boat’s products everywhere recently, and they seem to have built a good reputation, especially for affordable electronics. However, I haven’t used any of Boat products, and I think a lot of the hype is due to the marketing they do, but not entirely sure. The Boat power banks I checked out are priced similarly, with capacities ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 mAh. They also have good reviews, some models have over 4 stars so they seem like a solid option.

What I like about Boat is that people say their products last longer and handle multiple charges better than other budget brands. Plus, they offer fast charging, which is important if I need a quick top-up while traveling. But I haven’t used Boat any Boat products before, so I’m not sure how reliable the reviews are or are they paid ones.

Has anyone used either of these brands for power banks? I am looking for something that’s not just affordable but will hold up well during a long trip, without dying after a few months. I don’t want to spend much because I rarely needed power bank in last 6-7 years. So I would love to hear some feedback on whether AmazonBasics is good enough, or if Boat would be the better option for long-term use and reliability. Or if I should go for a completely different brand, please suggest me any budget model.

  1. Between the two brands, at similar prices, I would go with AmazonBasics. Amazon Basics products are usually copies of some of the best performing products from top brands world-wide. They just make cheaper versions without compromising on quality. But don’t expect a lot from power banks that are like 999 rupees for 10000mah. It’s simply too cheap to be good.

All brands these days copy the same product designs. Boat and Amazon Basics both have very similar designs of power banks. However, there are some great designs like the one with inbuilt cables

These are very useful designs. I don’t think Boat has a similar model.

Plus I have heard bad things about Boat build quality on cheaper varieties. Still if you find something at a good price, take it. Performance will be nearly identical in similar price bands.

  2. Hey, I have heard similar things about Boat, just because of the amount they charge, and having used their products personally, I never found them interesting or good build. The model that you shared seems good, but their are a lot of people complaining about heating issues. So I am not sure.

  3. I have not much experience with Amazon Basics electronics products, but why would you pick these two brands? BOAT, seriously?
Here are two you should check out: Xiaomi and Portronics.
Portronics usually sells products with better build quality than similar low-priced peer brands. I first bought their products in airports. Post-covid their products seems to have expanded to all online stores. Whenever I need some low-price electronics, I first look for Portronics if they have one. Just something to think about.

  4. It also emphasizes fast delivery, reliable returns, and unlocked ‘A+++’ graded devices, making them a compelling choice for European resellers seeking quality at scale.
