Gas Stove Buying Guide: Which Burner Is Best For Gas Stove

I will come straight to the point. In my journey to find the perfect gas burner for my stove, I found that brass burners are the best. After using it, I found that their durability, ability to withstand high temperatures, quick cooking, and fuel efficiency make them the top choice. But, I didn’t know that they can get corrosive very fast. So please consider this if you are planning to buy one.

Aluminum burners are another choice which is budget-friendly. They are cheaper than brass but they are not durable. The salesman informed me that high temperatures can deform them and replacements are needed frequently. Then there’s the cast iron option, the cheapest of them all. Cast iron burners heat up faster than brass, making them efficient. But, they have their own set of challenges, including rust and corrosion. While you may like the quick heating is a plus, the rust formation poses a risk of gas leakages and can even endanger life.

How to decide burner numbers?

In considering the ideal gas stove, you must decide the number of burners. I have seen that a lot of people like fancy four-burner setup. Even my mom wanted to buy it and she eventually did it. But to be honest, it wasn’t useful because our family of four didn’t need it. So the decision hinges on the size of your household.

For bachelors or single residents, a 1-burner or 2-burner stove is often sufficient, eliminating the need for larger setups. Married couples may find that a 2-burner or 3-burner stove meets their requirements, striking a balance between functionality and space.

An average Indian family of four typically benefits from a gas stove with three or four burners. Larger or joint families may find four burners more suitable for their cooking needs.

I have noticed that a 3 burner configuration is the best choice.

Manual or Auto Ignition:

In my personal experience, modern gas burners come equipped with auto-ignition features, lighting up with a simple twist of the gas stove knob. I think even this feature is pricier, it eliminates the need for matches or gas lighters. I personally think that opting for manual ignition may seem simpler, but it can lead to fuel wastage over time.

Regarding Hindware stoves, it ultimately comes down to personal preference. You get to decide whether the ease of auto-ignition aligns with your comfort or if you prefer the straightforward approach of manual ignition gas stoves.

Design:

I’ve witnessed the evolution of gas stove designs. Before the cast-iron models gave way to stainless steel, and now, we can buy the elegance of glass tops and ceramic surfaces that I think make them look a lot stylish. While I think that aesthetic appeal of glass and ceramic top gas stoves is awesome, the cost goes through the roof for those things. Yes, they are resistant to rust. But, my sister cracked the glass of the stove just by keeping one pot. So if you are into the looks of your kitchen, go for it. Otherwise, stainless steel stoves are best.

ISI Branding:

From my own experience, I strongly advise against opting for inexpensive gas stoves lacking ISI branding that you might find on the market. Your safety is paramount, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to compromise on it just to save a few bucks. Remember, your life is far more valuable than any amount of money.

Safety features to check before buying:

  • I was advised to check for loose fittings that could lead to potential gas leakage when selecting a gas stove.
  • Opt for a stove with appropriately elevated feet, making it easier to clean the kitchen counter without having to move the entire appliance.
  • It’s crucial that the gas stove legs feature rubber padding for enhanced grip on the kitchen platform.
  • Regularly clean the burners to ensure even burning. You can use a needle to unclog dust particles from the burner holes. If your burners are removable, cleaning becomes more convenient under the kitchen sink.
  • As I said before, avoid placing heavy or hot utensils on glass top stoves to prevent the risk of cracking. While gas stoves typically have toughened glass tops, taking precautions is always better than regretting it later.

Final thoughts:

I think this guide will help you choose the best stove. There are many great brands for stove in the market. I would recommend you to go for Prestige or Pigeon. These are well-known brands and you can easily get their servicing done anywhere because the parts are available easily everywhere. Also remember to check certification for government clearance and safety for your household. Don’t invest in glass tops if you have no interest in the aesthetic or looks of your kitchen. I hope this guide helps. If you have any questions, please let me know, I will be happy to answer.
