This happened nearly 10 years ago.
But I could come across a message in FB where someone was asking about whether products can be sold beyond MRP – Maximum Retail Price.
During my visit to Dominos in tambaram, along with my family, we ordered food and few water bottles. They have a good tie up with Kinley and they supply only Kinley water bottles, 500 ml.
When the bill came, they have charged me Rs.50/- per 500ml bottle whereas in the bottle it was mentioned as MRP Rs.20/-
I took the bill, paid and then told them i needed the visitors ledger. They gave it. I wrote my bill no and explained that they are not supposed to sell beyond MRP, which is printed on bottle.
I also explained the same to the counter incharge and told him I can go to Corporation citing this bill. I clearly said I was not interested to go to Corporation, but their management has to do something.
Next week, when we went again, they said water bottle is not available and is out of stock.
So, purposefully, we went the next week again and could see Kinley bottles all over the fridge.
Well, i thought to check the pricing.
Hi hi hi…..to my dismay, Kinley has not printed the price. Instead read “price as per the store being sold at” or in these lines
So, beware friends, to check these on your next visit
Thank you for sharing this experience. It’s important for us as consumers to be aware of the rights and check for discrepancies in pricing, especially when it comes to products being sold beyond MRP. It’s always a good practice to double-check the pricing and MRP when you make purchases to ensure you’re not being overcharged.
It is a common practice for hotels and restaurants to charge for water bottles according to their whims and fancies. I know of many places where they charge as much as INR 100 to 150 for water bottles. It is time consumers become aware of their rights. Mass awareness might lead restaurants and food joints to adopt fair practices and not loot their customers/ guests.
