Car seat attachment for 3 year old baby

Hi All,

I am wondering if a car seat is needed for my 3 yr old baby. I do not want to spend a lot on this if you feel it is not required.

The normal seat belt is touching the neck and is not comfortable I think. Any ideas?

  1. Normal seat belt for a 3yo? No way.
Get a car seat because the baby needs to sit at a height in order to see the outside and stay engaged.
Additiomally, the safety offered by the dedicated seat is important. Properly designed toddler seats provide safety from side collisions as well.

  2. Additionally, many countries have made this mandatory for kids under certain age to sit in a dedicated child seat. Unfortunately India doesn’t have such a regulation. The child seat is important for safety as mentioned earlier.
You can find cheap ones on Amazon. Flipkart etc. Try looking for used ones on Quickr, Olx and Facebook Marketplace also. Usually there is not much wear and tear in the used ones.

    1. I suggest you buy a new one if you are planning to use it for few years. Buying 2nd hand can be a bad experience as baby seats easily catch drool, urine etc.

  3. Agree to above. Your kid will not need it by next year. Buy the cheapest one whether new or secondhand.

It is a good investment if you are buying it for a toddler around 6mnths age.

  4. My kid always complained about pain in the thigh area as well as on the arms whenever we used a car seat. That was R for Rabbit brand. But I have heard similar things from other friends.

May be higher-end seats are more comfortable and designed better. I would not suggest a car seat if your kid can sit on normal seat or a booster seat.

  5. I totally understand your concern about spending money, but let me share something from my experience. I once tried using just the regular seat belt for my niece when she was around 3 years old, and it wasn’t a good idea. The seat belt touched her neck, and she seemed uncomfortable, just like you mentioned. That’s when I decided to get a baby seat, and it made a big difference. It not only kept her safe but also much more comfortable during car rides. So, even though it might seem like an extra expense, I’d say a baby seat is worth it for your little one’s safety and comfort.
