Power banks have been a boon for individuals who extensively use their phones. With almost everything being done on our Smartphones, it is obvious that their batteries will drain soon. They are especially helpful while traveling or when you are out of the office. I have used two power banks in the recent past from Lenovo and Boat. The Lenovo – 20000mah was fairly good. It lasted almost 2 years, but post that, the battery swelled up, and I had to discard it.
The Boat Power bank was a nightmare and a complete waste of money. It barely worked for 4-5 days and stopped charging the phone. As I bought it online, the return window had already closed, and I couldn’t get a replacement or refund. After that, I have been exploring and looking for a decent brand. Some people recommend Samsung, while others say the MI ones are better.
Can you suggest a good brand for a cost-effective power bank with a warranty?
You have already experienced the truth. Go for a good brand and you will have peace of mind.
I am not familiar with Samsung power banks, but I would suggest that if it is in your budget.
One thing is worth noting: most Indians have a scarcity mindset. That includes me too. We always try to opt for more even if we don’t need it at the moment. That is what makes us buy things that are not the best fit for our requirements.
For example, people who need a power bank just for emergency use can do well with a small , slim powerbank of 4000mah or even 5000mah that is more than enough to give you emergency charge. I and my wife used a “Lipstick Power Bank” whenever we travelled. I can share the exact product information later. It also had a flash light at the back and we never wanted more power. it was 3000 or 3200 mah.
Then I purchased another 12000mah, bulkier one. After one or two uses it is sitting idle at home.
Now I have one from an unknown chinese brand. It is my go-to power bank every time I need one. Size is like a pack of playing cards, and thinner. It has inbuilt cables for micro USB, USB Type C and for Apple lightning pin also. It has a display to show what percentage is spent. Running for more than 3 years now. Used almost once every month.
So, make your math and choose the smallest that will fit your needs. Don’t go for a bulkier one just because it offers double capacity at same price. Just my 2 paise 🙂 Let me know your thoughts and I will share some good options.
Hey, you gave me a new perspective on this. I think I can very much do with a smaller and sleek power bank instead of looking for bulkier ones. Please do share the brand names and a detailed review of the power banks you have used, if possible. It would be of great help.
I think you should understand that power banks usually last for a year or two. It’s rarely that they would last more than that because batteries usually swell up post that. MI has been one of the pioneers of power Bank at least in India so you can definitely go for it. If you want to spend extra, then Samsung is a great choice. The tag makes it much more safer and better. It may even last long. I would still suggest go for MI because they are cheaper and do their job well.
Thanks for the recommendation. I wasn’t still able to decide which power bank brand to rely upon. I have heard people using MI power banks but was a little skeptical. I think it’s time to explore more about MI power banks. And, yes that’s right, any power bank won’t last more than a year or two.
Yes, if you go with more than two years usage, then it will be tough to find any. I have been using MI’s third power Bank and almost each has worked well for 2-2.5 years. It is really good. If you can find, Anker’s power Bank, then you can go for it too. I have heard good reviews about it from my friends.
