Are Brands Like Snitch, Bonkers, and Powerlook Better Than Westside/Zudio?

I’ll be honest, I didn’t initially take brands like Snitch, Bonkers, and Powerlook seriously. For years, if someone said budget fashion, I immediately thought Westside or Zudio. My go-to casual tees, joggers and weekend outfits always included something from Westside or Zudio because they were everywhere, affordable, and mostly good enough. But over the last couple of years as my style evolved and Indian streetwear/fast fashion really kicked off I started noticing something: a growing crowd of people, especially on Reddit threads, Instagram fashion reels, and everyday conversations, repeatedly praising Snitch, Bonkers, and Powerlook. Curious, I dove deeper into what these newer brands actually offer versus the mainstream mall staples.

Here’s my detailed take on where these brands stand are they actually better than Westside/Zudio or is it just hype?

First Impressions: What These Brands Are Trying to Be

Let’s break this down at the outset because the core identity of each brand matters:

  • Westside / Zudio are department store brands. They cater to a broad audience, a mix of casual, semi-formal, basics, and some trendy pieces. Zudio is generally the more youth-focused, extremely budget segment under the Westside umbrella.

  • Snitch, Bonkers, Powerlook (and similar indie/fast-fashion labels) position themselves as streetwear/casual trend brands. They often chase trends faster, drop frequent collections, and target the young crowd who want Instagram-ready fits.

So right away, there’s a difference in intent: Westside/Zudio is broad and accessible, while the others are more targeted at style seekers and fast fashion consumers.

Fit, Fabric, and Quality: Does the New Cool Actually Deliver?

One of the most common complaints I kept seeing about Zudio (and sometimes Westside) is inconsistency. You could find a great denim jacket on one visit, and on the next checkout, the shirt you pick feels noticeably cheaper in fabric even though it’s the same price range. That isn’t a universal rule, but it is frequent enough that people mention it regularly: Zudio is hit-or-miss. I won’t hide that I have had that experience myself some tees from Zudio feel good, others fade or lose shape quickly.

Now contrast that with what people tell me about Snitch, Bonkers, or Powerlook:

  • The fit and cuts tend to be more modern meaning they often have slightly slimmer fits, trendy silhouettes, and detailing that’s more in-line with Instagram aesthetics.

  • The fabric quality often feels slightly better at similar price points especially with those cotton blends or textured knits. Many users say that the T-shirts and hoodies don’t feel like budget fabric even though they are in a similar price band as Zudio.

I tried a Snitch tee and a Powerlook hoodie myself. What struck me immediately was the drape and finish. It didn’t feel cheap in hand. The seams were cleaner, the fabric felt more robust, and the print didn’t feel like an afterthought.

Now, I’ll be fair and transparent:

  • Westside especially their premium labels can offer good quality, sometimes even better than these newer brands.

  • But what I notice is inconsistency, not overall inferiority. Westside at its best is good, at its worst is forgettable. Snitch/Bonkers/Powerlook are more consistent in their targeted category casual wear aimed at youth fashion.

Design Language: Trendy vs Timeless

This is where the new brands really shine for many young buyers. Snitch, Bonkers, and Powerlook aggressively chase what’s currently trending graphic tees, washed denim, oversized fits, bold prints, statement logos, layered streetwear vibes. They are designed to photograph well, stack well (layering outfits), and feel fashion-forward without costing as much as premium fashion labels.

Westside and Zudio, by contrast, have a broader punch list: they sell casual co-ords, party wear, workwear, ethnic fusion, kids, accessories, and more and that breadth sometimes means their trend game isn’t as sharp. A Westside kurta may win at an annual family event, but the latest bold street graphic tee moment? I’ve noticed more people prefer Snitch or Powerlook.

For me personally, when I want a stylish outfit I feel confident wearing out where I want to look good in photos, I gravitate toward newer brands because they just have that language nailed. Westside is reliable for basics and classic pieces, but trend driven designs? Not its strongest suit.

Price Point

Most of the time when someone says Snitch/Bonkers/Powerlook is better, they’re comparing it to Zudio price points. But here’s the catch:

  • Zudio is ultra-budget often Rs 399 to 999ish for basics.

  • Snitch and Powerlook tend to sit in a slightly higher band, perhaps Rs 799 to 1,499 for similar categories.

Once you’re paying the same price or more, expectations rise. And this is where opinions divide.

So this isn’t a universal win, it’s a value judgement based on:

  1. How much you care about fit and fabric quality

  2. How often you wash your clothes

  3. Whether you want fashion or just function

My personal view is that if you’re building a wardrobe with a style focus, those slightly higher price tags feel justified. If you want everyday basics that you don’t care about too much, Zudio still wins on sheer economy.

My Overall Verdict

I’ll wrap it up in simple terms:

  • For true everyday essentials and ultra-budget basics: Zudio still wins because it’s cheap, widely available, and good enough for functional daily wear.

  • For trendy, better-built casual wear that you actually enjoy wearing and don’t outgrow quickly: Snitch, Bonkers, and Powerlook feel better designed, better finished, and more consistent.

  • For long-term wardrobe staples (denim jackets, quality tees, streetwear fits): I personally prefer the newer brands — because after washed dozens of times, they age better and still look good.

  • For a “mix and match” closet: I think there’s room for both. Sometimes I’ll grab a budget tee from Zudio, but if I’m heading out and want to feel confident in what I’m wearing I reach for Snitch or Powerlook.

In a world where fashion is moving fast and people care about style cues as much as value, these newer brands are a welcomed shake-up to the old mall staples.
