Which Brand Offers the Best Induction Cooktops: Philips or Prestige?

I am currently looking for the best induction cooktop for my sister, who is about to start college soon. We want to get her something reliable so she can cook simple meals like boiling milk, making tea, or preparing quick snacks, especially since she will be living in a hostel where gas stoves aren’t allowed. After doing some research, I am torn between two popular brands Philips and Prestige.

Both brands have good reputations, but I am trying to figure out which one would be better suited for her needs. Philips is known for its durable electronics, and I have heard its induction cooktops are highly energy efficient. Prestige, on the other hand, is well established in the kitchen appliances market and has a range of cooktops that seem ideal for college students.

Some of the features I am considering include:

Portability: Since my sister will be moving to a hostel, I need a lightweight, compact model.

Rase of use: She’s not used to cooking much, so an easy-to-operate cooktop with clear settings is a must.

Safety features: As this will be her first time using an induction cooktop, safety features like auto-off, child lock, and overheating protection are really important.

Budget: Since this will be used for casual cooking, I am hoping to find something affordable but durable enough to last her college years.

Philips models seem a bit more expensive, but I have seen good reviews about their durability and energy savings. Prestige, meanwhile, has a wider variety at more affordable prices, but I am unsure about long-term durability.

Has anyone tried either of these brands for induction cooktops? Which one do you think is better for a college student who is just learning to cook? Also, any specific models that work well for casual use? Would love any suggestions or feedback before we make a purchase!

  1. I’ve used both Philips and Prestige induction cooktops, so I can share my experience. Personally, I’ve found Philips to be more reliable in the long run. The heating is quick and even, and the touch controls feel more responsive compared to Prestige. I also feel like Philips models are sturdier, and their build quality justifies the slightly higher price. That being said, Prestige isn’t bad either it’s more budget-friendly and does the job well, but in my experience, the surface tends to wear out faster, and the buttons might not be as durable. If you’re looking for something that lasts longer and performs consistently, I’d say go for Philips. That said, it depends on what you’re looking for. Are you prioritizing budget or durability? Also, what kind of cooking do you plan to do most often on it?

    1. I do want something that lasts longer since it will be used regularly. Budget is important, but I don’t mind spending a little extra if it means better durability and performance. Since this will be used for everyday cooking like boiling, frying, and making rotis I need something that heats up quickly and distributes heat evenly. Based on what you said, Philips seems like the better choice. Do you think it handles heavy-bottomed cookware well, or does it struggle with that?

      1. Yes, Philips handles heavy-bottomed cookware quite well! I’ve used it for pressure cookers, iron kadhais, and even cast iron tawas, and it heats evenly without any issues. Just make sure the base of the cookware is induction-compatible. The power settings are quite efficient too, so you can easily adjust for different cooking needs. If durability and performance are your priorities, I’d say Philips is a solid investment. Let me know if you need recommendations for specific models!

  2. I use Prestige induction from 1 year. It work good and price also not too much. Cooking is fast, but sometimes button not work proper. My sister have Philips, she say it better quality and strong. But Philips cost more, so if budget less, Prestige also fine. You need for daily use or sometimes only?

    1. Wow, great that Prestige works well for the price, but the button issue is something I will look into. Since your sister finds Philips to be stronger, I am leaning towards it for better long-term use. I do need it for daily cooking, so durability is important. Have you faced any heating issues with Prestige over time, or does it still work as fast as when you bought it?
