My daughter is using Dell Vostro 1540 laptop for almost 8 years. It is working fine but has been very slow for the kid in Std.10. What laptop can be a good replacement under 50000 rupees?
She liked a 2 in 1 flip laptop from Dell. That is around 45000. I had also found Redmi and Honor laptops for around 40000. please suggest
2-in-1 laptops have more problems than benefits. It will never feel like a real tablet. It will be heavier and bulkier. Also the keyboard on the bottom side can feel uncomfortable.
Relatively weak fan and processor compared to the normal laptops.
It is a hassle folding and unfolding the laptop and you will soon feel lazy and stop using the flip feature.
Yes, highly discourage convertible laptops unless you are always on the move. They always lag in performance behind their “normal” counterparts.
Vostro 1540 is Intel i5, most probably HDD also, right? You can go with any slim laptop with i5/ryzen5 or better. SSD is a must. Rest is your choice. Asus models around 45k should be good. Anything shortlisted?
Hello, I joined the site just to reply here. Assuming you can spend about 50k on the laptop (that will help go one level up in the processor) I have shared three best laptops under 50000 and some factors for you to decide.
1)
ASUS VivoBook 14 (2021) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B09DX8FZSL/
This has good storage, but screen size is small.
2) Asus Vivobook 16X (https://www.amazon.in/dp/B09ZV5CDWD/)
Very good screen size.
3) Lenovo Thiknbook 15 https://www.amazon.in/dp/B0B1DK542Q/
Balanced laptop. Has USB Type C charging which is futureproof.
Students at that age should use a large screen laptop. Now You have to decide between #2 and #3 above. Both have anti-glare screen and okayish battery life.

Thanks all. How is OLED screen for Asus K15? I see mixed reviews from users on Flipkart. However, online there are many articles saying OLED screens can be problematic in the long run.
@Dushyant, I like the Lenovo laptop you suggested. But it does not have backlight on keyboard. Thinking…
I don’t see anything great with the Asus model except that it has a 16 in screen. There is practically no difference between 15.6 and 16 inch screens. Actually 15.6 inch screen of Lenovo maybe wider and better for watching movies. just saying
In my opinion, the laptop should be a standard laptop under 40000 if possible. You may make bad decisions by just going with all that she likes and asks to buy.
Redmi and Honor are good too. You are buying their mobile phones so why not laptops?
These chinese brands offer best features at less cost. You may think there is not good support for these brands. But that is part of why they can offer at low cost.
Keep in mind, almost all laptops being sold in India are made in China. Raw material is the same. Price is different due to different branding.
I won’t suggest buying Redmi and Honor. I am attached to most of their customers forums and a lot of people are facing issues with those laptops. like hinge gets broken or screen gets black or blue. They are really bad in providing customer service. It is better to go with reliable brands like Dell or HP. The price is also low of these laptops because they don’t provide quality.
Thanks everyone. I just wanted to update here that I went ahead with Dushyant’s suggestion Asus 16X. Only shortcoming is lack of USB-C charger. But that is ok for me. I may or may not need a replacement charger in future. Even then Asus replacement chargers are available for 800-900 rupees from generic brands. Thanks again everyone for sparing time and looking into this.
Type C charger is beneficial anyways. You can use the same for charging phones. That is usually higher wattage charging. Saves space from clutter of cables.
I think 2-in-1 laptops is not a good choice if you are buying under 50,000. I am listing some of my favorites under 50,000. I think you should take a good one with better features even if it is not required at the moment because a laptop is a one time investment for at least 5 years.
HP 15s AMD Ryzen 3-5300U 15.6inch FHD Laptop:
If you’re searching for a lightweight laptop online, this is definitely one of the best. It has a 15.6-inch screen, well-suited for your personal requirements. Equipped with an AMD Ryzen processor and Windows 10 Home, this laptop ensures a comfortable studying or working experience. It has 8 GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, so even if your daughter wants to do graphics Designing or video editing, it will handle it.
Dell 14 Laptop, Intel i5-1135G7:
This is another good choice because it has an Intel i5 processor. The only bad thing is that it has a 256 GB SSD, which I think is less. However, your daughter will be able to do all the tasks easily on this laptop. It is fast, smooth working and affordable.
HP 14s, Ryzen 5- 8GB RAM/512GB SSD 14-inch Laptop:
Laptop that could handle both multimedia and student tasks, then I came across this HP laptop. It turned out to be quite affordable. With features like 8GB RAM (expandable to 16GB), and a 512GB SSD, it will cover all your daughter’s needs. What’s really handy is the fast-charging feature, which I think is perfect for any student.
I think you can choose anyone between these 3 laptops. The only thing I would suggest is to wait for the Diwali sale and buy it either from Amazon or Flipkart to get good discounts. You will easily get any of these around 40k rupees.
