Kajal or kohl is loved by every girl and it is a must-have in your vanity. Kajal lights up the eyes and glams you up even without using other makeup products. I have tried various kajal brands over the years since my college days to work. Based on my experience, I am sharing my review of five brands.
These are in the order of preference based on my experience of using these brands for a few years.
Loreal
Loreal is one of the best brands that have been offering a wide array of products. The popularity tempted me to try their kajal when I was looking for a good brand on Nykaa. There are two variants from Loreal that I loved using. The first one that I ordered was Loreal Paris kajal Magique Bold and later on I tried their Magique Supreme Black kajal. I found the latter one to be more pigmented and just one swatch was enough for a good pay off.
However, both the kohl pencils were good enough in terms of quality, durability, and smooth application. Either of them can be tried as there is a marginal difference in the price.
Lakme Iconic
Lakme iconic is yet another popular Kajal brand among women of all ages. Though it is number two in order of preference, it was the first kohl I tried ever during my college days. It is one of the best kajal brands with a good black pigmentation and smooth application along with long lasting results. It doesn’t smudge and gives you a clean and sharp look. Lakme kajal is one of the best brands available at best price. It is quite affordable for college going girls. Lakme is a trusted brand in the cosmetic arena and its kajal pencils stand true to the legacy. Apart from black, you can also find green, blue, brown, and white kajal from Lakme iconic.
These kajal pencils were my favorite for many years and it’s when I started using Loreal, it became my preferred choice.
Maybelline
The Colossal kajal from Maybelline is yet another good kajal brand that is affordable. After lakme, Maybelline is the most preferred brand for kajal, especially among young girls. The pencil glides smoothly on your waterline and stays intact for a long time. Though the brand claims that it stays for 24 hours, you can expect it to stay for at least 8-10 hours. If you are looking for a budget option, Maybelline is a great brand.
Kay
Kay is relatively a new brand on the block which was launched 2-3 years ago. Being impressed by their amazing lipsticks, I tried the kajal pencil from Kay. I had high hopes from this one but wasn’t really impressed by the results. The kajal pencil doesn’t glide smoothly on eyes and tends to smudge within few years. It was relatively expensive than other brands but I bought it as I expected it to be the best. I am not looking forward to using it ever again as market has better alternatives.
Lotus
Lotus herbal products are good. I have used their face creams and sunscreens and found them to be really effective and good on the skin. I heard good reviews about their kajal pencil as well about how richly pigmented it is. I ordered lotus kajal from Nykaa and found it to be good enough. The color pay off is good and it glides smoothly on the waterline. It’s a rich deep black color and lasts for several hours without smudging. It is a little expensive as compared to Lakme and Maybelline but it is worth the extra money.
Verdict
All these five brands are popular in Indian market for their cosmetic products and their kajal pencils are also fairly good. However, for me Loreal is the winner! It has an edge over others in terms of rich pigment, smooth gliding, and durability. As the color pay off is good, you don’t need to make more strokes for a pigmented look. Hence, it can last you for several months. Loreal kajal is available online on Myntra and Nykaa and it can be bought from offline stores as well.
