Oats V/s Cornflakes- Better Choice for Breakfast

Cornflakes were a staple breakfast option till oats came into the picture. People have their preferences clear, but there is always a debate on which one is better, between oats and cornflakes. There are studies that suggest oats are a better choice for breakfast owing to their several health benefits. However, it is recommended to choose plain rolled oats as there are variants available in the market that are sweetened and might spike blood sugar levels. The first meal of the day should not begin with items that spike the sugar level, especially for diabetics. Oats contain protein and fiber, which instantly makes them a great choice. Yet another benefit of Oats is that you can have them in several ways.

While having oats with milk and fruits is common for breakfast, you can make many delicious recipes with plain rolled oats such as Oats Chilla, Oats Upma, Oats Poha, and anything that you wish to experiment with. Just grind them into a paste and add the required ingredients for flavoring. There are many recipes online for oats. It is a great choice for people who watch their weight.

  1. I can totally relate to the shift from cornflakes to oats for breakfast! For the past two years, my mother have been relying on Quaker oats, and they’ve become a staple in her morning routine. I am more of a poha jalebi type person. But I do try Oats Chilla or Oats Upma, when she makes them. I understand health benefits, especially the protein and fiber content, make it an ideal choice, but I cannot have them regularly. I usually order them online for mom.

  2. That’s great to know that your mother has oats for her breakfast, as it is a healthier choice. Usually, it can be tough to convince parents to try something new. Yes, you can’t have it daily, but at least thrice a week should be fine, considering you try different oats recipes such as Upma, Cheela, etc. You can also add other ingredients such as sooji, besan and veggies to enhance the taste and flavour of your oats recipes.
