Kids lcd slate tablet 8 inch or 15 inches?

Hi friends, I was fascinated by the digital slates avilable for kids these days. You can find many for below rs 200 on amazon, flpkart, jiomart etc. Can you say if there is any benefit from buying for more than rs 500? Quality will be better?

Also, is it good to buy the 8.5 inch one or the 15 inch one? Bigger one may be too heavy to handle? Practical comments please.

  1. I feel 8.5 inch is pretty standard and portable. You can use it in many places. The 15 inch versions may be tough to take everywhere.
Almost all of them in the range of 100-250 are similar in terms of features. This one from Amazon basics might be a good one https://www.amazon.in/Amazon-Basics-8-5-inch-Writing-Drawing/dp/B0BBMPH39N/

Note that the writing brightness is pretty low in all of these. Also, note that you do not have the option to “erase” parts of the screen. The “erase” feature is actually a delete button for the whole screen content. It is the same in all similar tablets.

  2. You better buy one around 500 rupees the cheap one will not last longer than 2 3 months I am telling from experience.

    1. Completely agree as I had used both types. The 150-200 rupees slates got damaged and unusable in a month or two. I bought Redmi slate few months back and it is as good as new even if all of us including the toddler use it for random drawings.

  3. More than the longevity the cheap unbranded ones are made from very bad plastic which is a silent killer. As far as possible avoid giving the cheap chinese plastic to kids. Strictly a no for kids below 3yrs because they will put everything in mouth.

Even then, high Lead content plastic causes harm when comes in contact with skin frequently. It is a long process and you will not easily relate to what caused the diseases.

    1. Absolutely, you bring up a crucial point about the quality and safety of kids’ tablets. Cheaper, unbranded tablets can indeed be made from lower-quality materials that may not meet safety standards. That’s why I said above to someone who commented that unbranded roadside ones are okay too, but I don’t think they last long enough and as you mentioned the materials used should be safe for children, especially for kids under 3 years old who tend to put everything in their mouths. I also think that high lead content and poor-quality plastics can have long-term health effects. So as parents or elders, it is important to make sure well-constructed and certified tablets for their children’s safety and well-being.

  4. School children buy this from roadside shops in the locality. They are happy with the product. No need of big brand name.

    1. I think there is no need of a big brand name but sometimes when you buy a branded product, then it has the best chances of lasting long enough. I am also not a huge believer in buying all products with a brand name but such products or especially something that has technology involved in it.

  5. I had used the road side quality. The skin went off within a week. Redmi quality must be good for long term use.

    1. Yes, definitely the quality of Redmi is good. I bought one for my nephew, he enjoyed it completely and it has been more than 1.5 years, it still works perfectly fine. I hope people start to understand that not all products in local market are good. sometimes it is better to spend some extra money on branded products and get a long lasting deal.

    1. I was looking for 15-inch digital tablet for personal use. Checked Amazon Basic https://www.amazon.in/Amazon-Basics-Writing-15-inch-rainbow/dp/B0BRZK8DPJ/
this one was the coloured screen. There is a slightly cheaper version without colour. What I can tell you is the colour is of no use. There are different colour areas in the slate. That is what they mean by saying color screen. So, it is better to buy the cheaper one.

The one that we purchased is from Portronics. This is also colour screen and slightly costlier. But the build quality looked superb in photos and also in real.

This is working awesome for last couple of months. Looks like new. But another fact is I am using it with great care. You can ask me if you have doubts.

  6. I think the Redmi LCD Writing Pad with Stylus, 21.5cm(8.5inch), is really good. You can find it on Amazon. I read a lot of reviews about the product and found them good. The writing pad has Smart Lock to Save Content and is made up of ABS Material, so the quality of the product is good enough to last at least a couple of years without any issue. I also would like to mention that it has an Anti-Blue Light Screen so your kids don’t have any strain. It is Eco Friendly. I think if you look at all these features, then this is really good. 1. Hi guys, I have this Redmi writing pad and the original battery ran for quite long time, like more than 2 years. Now I am in a fix trying to replace batteries. I have spent more than 250 rupees now and all useless. I got set of 5 batteries from Amazon, Eveready brand. That didnot work. Got an old Panasonic one, that worked faintly. What to do now? Is the device aged and that is the problem it is not working with new batteries?
