ELECTRIC VEHICLES – TWO WHEELERS

There is new hype of Electric Vehicles – Two Wheelers in the city.  As such, the market seems to be making big for them.  Whereas, the same electric vehicles were sold at a maximum of Rs.27,000/- in 2016.  Now the prices have become so very big that almost none of them are priced less than 1,25,000/-

Is there any real costing involved as such

  1. I’ve observed a significant escalation in the cost of two-wheelers, not just electric vehicles. All bikes price have gone up. The Splendor which you could’ve owned for Rs. 65000 on road. Now, the ex showroom price of vehicle is 90 to 95000 and on road the price can be around 1.05 lakhs. I think the change happened since the shift to emission standards like BS-IV and BS-VI. Another factor is probably inflation which started to show up in 2016 and has gone worse since 2018. It has played a substantial role in driving up the cost. I think government should do something about taxes because it is tough to afford a regular bike and I don’t think prices of even electric vehicles will come down.

  2. I think because of the increase in awareness amongst people about making eco-friendly choices and going the green way, there is a sudden increase in the demand for electric vehicles. Companies see it as a lucrative opportunity to sell their cars and bikes at exorbitant prices!

    1. No, I don’t think that’s the case. The govt taxes are very high. Yes, people are looking to buy electric vehicles but the sales and surveys suggest otherwise. A lot of people still want to go for normal diesel-petrol vehicles. It’s just that the high taxes has made prices of every vehicle go up whether car or bike.
