Wondered where to get a prepaid sim card for travelers to India. I had friends who bought sim cards from local shop and it took days to get that ‘activated’! Are there online stored that sell prepaid sim cards you can buy and start using immediately? I haven’t been able to find one on Amazon.in.

You can get some from local sim card shop. They take extra money for pre activated sim cards.
That’s a bad advice. These sim cards are procured illegally with fake documents, or documents illegally copied from other customers. It’s a rampant practice all over India where small retail stores procure multiple SIM cards on each customers identity documents. Most of the time these SIM cards will cease to work within few months when KYC is due. Risky business overall.
Already activated sim cards are issued for someone else. Do not buy that under any circumstances. You can buy a sim card and get it activated within hours.
In fact, everyone should be careful that their Aadhaar and other details are not used for buying extra sims. These sims are easily obtained by online fraudsters as a use-and-throw number.
Offtopic but I wanted to warn you people. When giving Aadhaar biometric verification for sim card, some shops keep asking you to try multiple times. Be careful as there is high chance that they are buying multiple SIM cards in your name. Later they sell these sim cards t fraudsters.
