Car Dash Cam Suggestions please

Anyone with some experience on car dash cams? I was using my phone for casual recording of trips. Now I think a dedicated cash camera will be better.
Anyone here knows what all to check before finilising one?

  1. I have not personally used a dashcam. Have seen on friends’ cars. I can advise on below points:

Video recording resolution should be at least 1080p or higher. This is the bare minimum if you encounter interesting stuff and want to keep that video for future.

Wider view – Try for a wide camera that will capture a large angle of view. Anything 120 degree or more is ideal. That will help you record what was happening on the sides as well.

Good low light performance will help record good footage at night.

Loop recording is there in most dashcams these days. Camera will automatically overwrite older footage when the memory card is full, so you don’t have to worry about storage-full issues.

  2. Hero Group’s Qubo dash-cams are promoted all over these days.
However, almost all brands offer similar functionalities and most of the components are sources from China. I would suggest you buy one that is cost-effective as this is your first dash-cam.

Do note that Qubo dash cams support Time Lapse videos and you can enjoy watching your journeys later.

Based on your budget, if you are okay to experiment for a year or so, buy something around above 5000 Rupees.
Don’t blindly go for products by watching shiny Ads or descriptions. For example, this one

promises a lot more features like higher resolutions, parking mode etc. However, heating appears to be a problem in this. And imagine using this in rough/hot days. Things can go wrong and recording can stop.

Additionally, extra resolution is not always better for these small cams. A camera with 1080p can offer better processed videos/frames than an insanely higher resolution video where processing power is not enough to add quality to high number of frames in the video. Ignore the resolution like 1.5K or QHD and buy one that’s in your budget.

  3. Qubo dash cam all the way. It is made in India and performs very good. I have used for more than a year and it works great. Operations are a bit slow, but that is the case with most sub-5000 dashboard cameras.

    1. Great, it charges from the car charger USB pins, right? The description says some microSD cards do not work. So, I have to be careful which microSD card I have to buy.

  4. One of my friends recently bought a dashcam by Qubo. It is quite awesome he often uploads reels and timelapse from it. The camera records Full HD 1080p and also has wide angle view support. The best part is that it has huge memory support of upto 256GB memory card. You can check it here:
