When I started thinking about setting up a home gym, I realized the costs could easily spiral out of control. A decent set of weights, a treadmill, or even resistance bands can add up quickly. What really pushed me to explore this was when my gym shut down during the pandemic, and I needed a way to stay consistent with my workouts. The idea of working out at home became appealing—no commute, no waiting for equipment, and no gym fees. But the prices of new equipment online had me questioning whether this was even feasible.
I have been scouring marketplaces like Amazon, Flipkart, and even local secondhand shops for deals. Some people suggested looking into refurbished equipment or clearance sales at gyms that were downsizing. Then there are these “multi-functional” benches and weights that look like a great deal, but I’m skeptical about their durability. Are they worth it, or am I better off sticking to branded stuff, even if it means spending more?
For those of you who’ve set up your own home gyms on a budget, where did you find the best deals? Are there brands you trust that don’t cost a fortune? And what’s the one piece of equipment you think is non-negotiable? I’d love to hear your insights because, honestly, I am a bit overwhelmed by the options out there. Any tips or tricks for getting quality gear without emptying my wallet?
Don’t just go for Amazon or Flipkart, just try and go for stores in your city. The gym equipment need to be touched and experienced with their weight, otherwise it can be very difficult to return and exchange. I tried ordering from Flipkart, but the weights mentioned and what came was completely different. If you find a trustworthy brand online, then it is okay, but if not i’d suggest to go for more in-store shopping.
I completely agree with you about the importance of physically checking gym equipment before buying. Weight discrepancies and quality issues can be a real hassle, especially when ordering online. Your point about in-store shopping makes a lot of sense it’s easier to assess the build quality, weight, and functionality firsthand.
