Reliance Digital Vs Croma: Which Is Better For Shopping Home Appliances?

I have had the chance to shop at both Croma and Reliance Digital when buying home appliances, and while both offer a wide variety of products, my experience with each store has been quite different. Here is my quick comparison based on what stood out to me, and maybe it’ll help you decide where to go for your next purchase.

Product Range and Availability: When it comes to variety, Croma tends to have a broader selection of high-end, premium brands, especially in their larger stores. On the other hand, Reliance Digital offers a more balanced range, with a good mix of budget, mid-range, and premium appliances. It is where I went when I was buying my washing machine, and I found plenty of affordable models alongside the premium ones.

Pricing and Offers: When it comes to pricing, both stores are pretty competitive, but Reliance Digital usually has more frequent discount offers and special promotions, especially during festive seasons. I was able to snag a great deal on a microwave during one of their sales, something that Croma didn’t match at the time. Plus, if you’re someone who loves extended warranties and service packages, Croma tends to push these deals more aggressively.

Customer Service and Shopping Experience:

Here is where I had mixed experiences. Croma has a more organized and polished layout, which makes browsing through appliances quite easy. The staff was knowledgeable but, at times, a bit too “salesy,” constantly trying to upsell extended warranties and premium models. However, I liked that they knew their stuff when it came to explaining product features.

At Reliance Digital, I had a more laid-back experience. The staff there wasn’t as pushy, and they were more focused on helping me stick to my budget. However, I did notice that they were not always fully informed about the technical details of the products I was interested in, which was a bit frustrating.

Delivery and After-Sales Service:

Reliance Digital impressed me with their quick delivery. My washing machine arrived within 24 hours, and installation was smooth. In contrast, Croma took a bit longer to deliver a refrigerator I had ordered, but their installation process was well-coordinated, with the technician giving a thorough demo. Both stores offer decent after-sales support, but I found Croma’s customer service to be more responsive in case of any issues.

So what to choose Croma or Reliance Digital?

If you’re looking for a premium shopping experience, high-end products, and detailed guidance, Croma might be the better option. However, if you’re after affordability, quick delivery, and frequent offers, Reliance Digital is hard to beat. I personally loved Croma.

Have you shopped at Croma or Reliance Digital before? So, what’s your experience been like with these two stores? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I never liked any of the ecommerce sites of Reliance group. Their physical stores may be good. Have never been there.
Online experience is pretty bad. Reliance Digital looks and feels like JioMart website and app. It also behaves that bad. No proper search results. No proper tracking after order placement. Complex set of things in the payment stage. I can go on.

I have been to Chroma multiple times and the staff always tried their best to help choose a product. They were not very pushy either. Everyone these days knows we compare across stores and websites before making a deal.
So, if I ever have to buy something from a store, Chroma would be my first choice.

    1. Yes, Chroma is definitely very good in terms of the range and not being pushy. I have purchased and went there a lot of times for inquiring about laptops and more stuff. I like the vibe there too, the discounts may not be as great, but definitely worth visiting and a good instore shopping experience.

  2. Chroma any day! They offer very good offers, even better than online offers most of the time. And I am talking about Chroma stores offline. Do not judge them by what you see in their online catalog and features.

Everytime we went there for a product, we came across numerous different offers from credit cards and finance companies. These offers are not advertised online. Plus there are other goodies almost all the time.

    1. I also love Croma, they definitely have better premium brands and good offers overall. Reliance is more about budget shopping and their staff is definitely not worth it. Yes, Croma in-store shopping is what makes it great, I don’t like their online model and it is not worth it when you have platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, etc.

  3. Yeah, I would not suggest comparing these two based on their website features and models availability. Croma had a lot of alternative models when I visited for a specific laptop. Reliance store had only generic 15 inch models and they were trying to sell me something which I clearly told I was not looking for. (I was looking for a 14 inch laptop with non-reflective screen)
This may be just that specific store of the specific few staff. Still wanted to add my experience here.

  4. Guys do visit Reliance Digital at least to check products and offers. All Reliance Retail brands (including JIO MART) are offering a lot of discounts these days to grab market share before IPO. This may be temporary so grab while you can.

  5. Both these brick-and-mortar stores are getting increasingly busier day by day. I believe that is due to the gradually diminishing price benefits of buying something online. Plus, more and more affluent people these days opt for the “feel” of shopping which is not there in just browsing and ordering something online.
In my close circle, I am hearing more about both these stores than Amazon or Flipkart when it comes to appliances. Interestingly, for things like DishWasher (that is still a new thing for many), people here are more interested to see and feel it in person before investing.

    1. That’s an interesting perspective! I’ve also noticed that people are leaning more towards in-store shopping for home appliances, especially for bigger or newer investments like dishwashers. There’s definitely something reassuring about seeing the product up close and getting a demo before making a decision. I agree that the online price advantage seems to be narrowing, and with appliances, the after-sales service or installation help you get from these stores can make a big difference.

Out of curiosity, do you or your close circle have a preference between Reliance Digital and Croma when it comes to variety or customer experience? I’m trying to figure out which one might be better to visit first. Would love to hear more thoughts!

  6. I think Vijay Sales is less hyped but more modern and preferred appliance store for many. They also have good partnerships with banks. Just check their website once.

    1. I don’t think they have branches all across India. I haven’t seen much stores. The thing with Croma and Reliance Digital is the accessibility. But thanks for the mention, I will check their website and see their product availability.

  7. How is online shopping experience in Croma? I really like a laptop there and it is cheaper than any other place. I am a bit sceptical about delivery tracking. What if they send an open box item they had on display?

    1. As already mentioned above, there are some special offline deals and free bundled products you get only in the physical stores, both Reliance Digital and Croma and most other offline electronic stores also.
For online, Croma is light-years ahead in terms of experience. My friend had ordered a laptop from Croma to a remote town in Andhra Pradesh, and got it delivered in 3 days.
Reliance Digital also delivers in a very quick time. Don’t worry about that.

As far as I know, the stores clearly offer discounts for open-box items and items that have been there for display. And there are good discounts on them. You may want to try that in their physical stores. I don’t think they offer or send open-box items via online order.

Someone looking to buy electronics online should first check in major shopping sites, mainly Amazon and Flipkart in my opinion. Another reason I am not in favour of Reliance Digital is their confusing gift card system. They do not seem to accept gift cards on online orders. Often you will see discount vouchers on both Reliance DIgital and Croma. So, go ahead, compare FINAL prices after discount coupons and bank/card discounts and then take a call. I would still go to Amazon or Flipkart if the price difference is not much, like <5%.

      1. I completely agree that offline stores often have exclusive deals, bundled freebies, and discounts on open-box or display units, which can make them a great option for those who prefer to see and test the product before buying. Both Reliance Digital and Croma deliver quickly, even to remote locations, which is definitely a plus for online shoppers. The Reliance Digital gift card issue is something I have also noticed, and it can be frustrating that they don’t allow them for online purchases. Croma does seem to have a more seamless online experience in comparison. And yes, Amazon and Flipkart should always be checked before making a final decision, especially with their frequent discounts, exchange offers, and bank deals. If the price difference is minimal, I would also lean towards buying from them for the added convenience, better return policies, and customer support.

  8. I think this post is not about online shopping. For offline experience, I like Croma better. Well-behaved staff and not that pushy. Though it varies from person to person.

Online ordering was okay experience. I had ordered something small on discount. It was delivered before time. But the website experience could be improved.
