Looking for suggestions on baby feeding bottle for feeding solids first time

Hello folks,

Anyone got experience with baby feeding bottles for starting solid food? My daughter is starting with solids and I’m in splits after going through various feeder bottles available online. I was thinking of a squeezy silicone bottle from Fisher Price. Any suggestions from experience? All who I asked offline suggested normal bowl and spoon 🙂

Thanks in advance! _B

  1. Those bottles are a mess. By the way, there are varieties of those bottles. All have different hardness etc. It’s good to go to a shop and buy after you examine the item.

    1. I would not recommend the bottles. After a month or two, you will need to increase the thickness of the mashed food, and it will be difficult for that to pass through the tiny hole in the spoon attachment. Better to practice with a standard spoon and bowl. Plastic bowl works best as sometimes you want to food to retain the temperature.

  2. Did you find what you needed? We had to buy a whole bunch of feeding equipment and none of them was a sure shot way to feed. Some day one thing will work, some day other.

  3. Actually yes, have bought and experimented with many things. Still not sure what will work.
First bought a squeezy bottle from Fisher Price:

The body is very soft and the tip (spoon part) is very soft also. Baby ate well for the first time from it. But later started playing around with it. The tip is soft and there is high chance of food spraying out everywhere if the baby moves it. We rejected that and looked to go back to a spoon.

I looked for some plastic spoons. But all spoons (chicoo, luvlap, fisher price etc.) seemed soft silicone. We wanted a hard spoon. Fortunately someone said this spoon from Fisher Price is soft but not so soft that baby can bend it with tongue –

Right now we are feeding the baby with this spoon from a steel bowl. So far it’s okay. One interesting thing is this spoon becomes white when temperature of food is too high. Actually you will not need this feature, but sometimes helped to know if water has heated enough to mix formula or cerelac etc. I hope this helps someone.

    1. Feeding bottles work great after a bit of practice. No food will be wasted or spill, stain the bib or dress. I suggest you try the bottles with a solid spoon and not the soft silicone spoon attachment.

  4. Traditional steel bowl and steel spoon work well. Try to get a small thick spoon. They sell it specific for baby use. Some people use silver spoon. But that’s an overdo.
