Myntra increases price immediately after I browse a product and shortlist to buy

Myntra has been so pathetic. Every time I like a product and want to buy, they immediately increase the price. Don’t you think this is unethical? They also add random charges like convenience fee, shipping charges, taxes etc. on displayed price. I really want to buy from alternative sites and never come to Myntra.

  1. Yeah, it can be disappointing when the price of a product increases just when you’re interested in buying it. Not sure of Myntra’s pricing strategy, but many ecommerce sites alter prices based on demand, supply, and market conditions.

Additional charges like convenience fees, shipping charges, and taxes etc are mentioned transparently. So, I don’t think there is a problem with that.

Now for the alternative sites to shop from, there are several other e-commerce platforms available for fashion, clothing and accessories. But IMO Myntra has the best collection. Here’s what I think about the others:
    1. Amazon: Amazon is growing a lot on clothing, accessories etc. And prices are usually good along with good offers time to time. You can try if not already.
    2. Flipkart is parent of Myntra and has got many common products. It is relatively unorganized is what I feel – for fashion and lifestyle items.
    3. Last but not the least, Ajio: Ajio is giving tough competition to Myntra when it comes to clothing, footwear, and accessories. You can try them.

By the way, ShoppersStop is in your city? They have a good online service now in major cities.

  2. It’s something I’ve noticed happening quite often on various online shopping websites not just Myntra. Prices seem to fluctuate frequently, and I can’t recall the exact site this happened on. My friend bought a T-shirt that I really liked, so I decided to ask him to order one for me as well. Surprisingly, within just two days, the price nearly doubled, and I had to tell my friend not to go through with the purchase. It’s a classic case of “make hay while the sun shines.” It seems like this might be a common strategy among businesses. Even in physical stores, when there’s high demand for a particular item, the shop owner tends to raise the price.

    1. Yeah, Myntra seems to be a bit too much. Others are doing it though. Once you shortlist something, they let you buy at the price you had seen.
You may be right, there is a reason these websites and apps have “wishlist”, “share” etc features. The more these are used, the better they know the propensity to buy and jack the prices. Having said that, there are many alternatives at this moment and Myntra doesn’t seem to be the only option if you don’t like the price.
If you want to experiment, just wait up and watch the price fall down. It does, in most cases.

      1. Bad experience is bad experience. I will feel more comfortable buying from shops where the write all-inclusive prices.
Don’t we like the “all-inclusive” whenever we buy something?

      2. I’ve had a similar experience with Myntra. It’s interesting how they and other sites let you lock in a price after shortlisting. It happened while buying a kurta pyjama set and they increased almost 350 Rs. I think this happens due to cookies that we accumulate while browsing too. They have our data and use it against us.

  3. Yes, it happens with most of us. The item that we wishlist or put in cart shows an increase in price after a while. However, it has not got anything to do with us. This is how the e-commerce industry works. In order to stay competitive, they change the prices of their products several times a day. It helps them stay competitive in the e-commerce sector. Having the same price for their products might lead them to lose valuable buyers.
With the help of price monitoring tools and other automated software, the prices are changed in real time based on what their competitors are charging.

As buyers, we must always explore products from the same brands on various e-commerce portals such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Ajio. There are times when you find the same or similar product at a better price on other portals. Myntra is hands down even my favourite online shopping app but others brand are doing a fairly good job and catching up with Myntra.
