  1. Hi, really useful research you have done and good timing! I have been comparing toasters-cum-sandwich makers but looking for 2 slice mini models only. Any recommendations here? I loved the idea of pop up models where crispy slices pop up with a ‘ting’ sound 🙂 However, on second thought, I think I need a 2-in-1 design where I can make sandwiches too.
Prestige and Milton are so far what I shortlisted. Any quick comparison, most welcome!

    1. What were the exact models in Prestige and Milton? The ones around 1000-1200? They must be 700-800 Watts.
I can recommend you this one from Borosil: https://www.amazon.in/Borosil-Sandwich-Automatic-Non-stick-Warranty/dp/B0D5YMJDXZ/
If your budget permits, go for a 1000-watt grill-sandwich maker and choose one model that heats from both plates. That will be much faster. Hence, you can make toasts with a crisp surface while still retaining moisture inside for a soft inside.

If not, then Milton Royal 800 Watt is a good one. It seems to have double-sided heating:

  2. Thanks, we got a two slice toaster : Prestige PEG 6.0
It is 1000 watt and works okay. However, we did a mistake buying it from BigBasket to get it same day. They do not have a return or replacement policy. I noticed the manufacture date is old and then we also found a small broken part on the indicator light cover. Though it is not a big deal, it is a bad experience.

    1. Actually, the one day delivery or grocery delivery guys like Blinkit and Swiggy and Big Basket usually don’t keep good electronics product, I have had bad experiences with them in case of mobile chargers and earbuds when I wanted to buy them urgently. I think it is better to buy such things from company’s website or Amazon. They are better in such things. Most of these grocery delivery services store these products for a long periods of time and people don’t prefer buying from them unless it is urgent.

      1. To this point, in general, whatever they sell will sell because people usually buy these items in urgency. I know folks buying tyre inflators from Blinkit right before the start of a trip.

Coming back to the topic, if you are buying a 4-slice toaster, most probably you would be a heavy user of toaster and it makes sense to invest more and get a product that is built well and lasts longer. I would not suggest brands that are recent entrants to the business and are offering eye-catching features are lower price.

  3. I have heard from a friend, Prestige PEG series is very reliable. Prestige PEG 1 is a good 4-slice toaster. Unfortunately it was not available readily and we had to settle for Borosil. That is a good one as well.

  4. I’m curious about the Morphy Richards AT 402 since that’s the one you bought how has your experience been with it so far? Does it toast evenly on both sides, or do you need to flip the bread midway? Also, you mentioned that it has wide slots, which is great, but how does it handle different types of bread? Some toasters struggle with artisan bread or thicker slices does this one accommodate those well? Lastly, I see that some of the other models have high-lift functions or defrost settings. Since you researched so many options, did you feel like you missed out on any features by choosing the Morphy Richards over the others? Or does it meet all your needs perfectly?

    1. So far, I’ve been really happy with the Morphy Richards AT 402. It toasts quite evenly, and I haven’t had to flip the bread midway. That said, like most toasters, the first batch sometimes needs a tiny bit longer than the subsequent ones. As for different bread types, I’ve tested it with standard sandwich bread, thicker slices, and even pav, and it handles them well. The wide slots are definitely a plus—no struggles with stuffing in thicker slices. However, for something super thick like a baguette slice, you might have to trim it slightly. Regarding features, I did consider the high-lift and defrost settings that some other toasters have, but honestly, I don’t feel like I’m missing out. I don’t freeze my bread often, and the reheat feature on this one works well if someone gets to breakfast late. The price and performance balance made it the right choice for me! But if you love extra features, the Philips or Krups models might be worth considering.

  5. I noticed that most of these are pop-up toasters did you consider any models with a longer slot design rather than the traditional four-slot layout? Some people prefer those for more flexibility, especially if they toast longer slices of bread or multiple smaller pieces at once. Also, you mentioned that your previous toaster lasted seven years, which is impressive! What brand was it, and did that influence your decision when picking a new one? Durability is a big factor for me, so I’d love to know which brands seem to hold up best over time. Lastly, how noisy is the Morphy Richards toaster when it pops up? Some toasters have a super loud pop-up mechanism that can be jarring, while others are smoother and quieter. Since you’ve already started using it, does it have a sharp pop, or is it relatively gentle?

    1. I did come across some long-slot models while researching, but I personally prefer the traditional four-slot design because it allows me to toast different types of bread at the same time (say, two regular slices and two thick slices). That said, long-slot toasters are great for things like sourdough or artisan bread, so if that’s your preference, they’re worth looking into! My old toaster was a Bajaj ATX model, and it served me really well! That’s why I initially considered another Bajaj toaster, but I wanted something with more consistent browning and extra features this time. Morphy Richards has a strong reputation for durability, so I felt confident picking it. As for the pop-up sound it’s actually not too loud! It’s a firm but smooth release, nothing too jarring. Some toasters can be startlingly loud, but this one has a nice balance where you hear it pop without it feeling like an alarm.
